The swim course will be a point to point ocean swim bordering Cozumel's coral reef.

There will be no swim warm up, swimming in the race course may result in disqualification

The swim will be a rolling start. Athletes will enter the water in a continuous stream through a controlled access point, similar to how running road races are started. An athlete’s times will start when they cross timing mats at the start line. Athletes will be directed to self-seed on race morning based on their projected swim time. Volunteers and staff will be in the staging area with signs and will assist with this process. Self-seeding will not be mandatory but will be encouraged.

Age Group Athletes will begin to enter the water at 7:10 a.m. It is expected to take 20 minutes for all athletes to enter the water; everyone will be in the water by 7:30 a.m.

Water temperature in the month of November is typically around 80.5 F. No wetsuits will be allowed for this event. Athletes will swim 100 meters into the ocean making their way to the buoy, here they will turn left and swim approximately 3.5 kilometers in a straight line (current will be in athletes favor) past Chankanaab pier (2nd buoy) making a left heading towards the 3rd and last buoy, here athletes will make a final left turn making their way back to the exit located at Chankanaab Park.

Ford Ironman Cozumel will provide a bright colored swim cap for each athlete. This cap is provided for your safety and must be worn throughout the entire swim leg.

Prior to start, optional pre-race bags will be available for each athletes morning clothes, items must fit in properly inside the pre swim bag, these bags will be kept at the post race area and should be retrieved by the athlete immediately after the marathon portion of the event.




BIKE: 3 laps 112 miles (180 kms) cut off time 10 hours 30 minutes after start:

The bike course is a flat and paved road, starting at the CHANKANAAB parking lot (T1), and finishing at T2 Cozumel's City Hall, Downtown Cozumel (T2). You will have to complete 1.3laps around the Island in a counter clockwise direction. Every lap will go past by the City Hall, between T2 and the finish line.

Upon leaving T1 at Chankanaab Park, turn right and continue onto Cozumel's highway and ride for approximately 12 miles south of the Island (Punta Sur), at this point you will continue north for approximately 9 miles along Cozumel's ocean front where strong cross winds are expected.

You will head towards Juarez Ave (a place called Mezcalitos) where you will turn left and ride towards 30th Ave, at this point you will make another left turn and ride straight on to 11th street, turning right onto City Hall to complete your first lap. Athlete must complete 3 full laps in order to finish this stage of the event.

The entire course is flat and on perfectly paved road

** Important: Due to the strong cross winds during a portion of the bike segment, the use of disc wheels will be strictly forbidden, please take this into consideration to select your racing wheels. Race officials will monitor this at bike check in.

Important:

  • PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR BIB NUMBER ON THEIR BACK DURING THIS SEGMENT.
  • DRAFTING IS NOT ALLOWED.
  • BLOCKING IS NOT ALLOWED.
  • NO EXTERNAL AID OR SUPPORT IS ALLOWED.
  • DURING THE BIKE YOU WILL FIND WATER BOTTLES (FILLED WITH WATER) AT THE AID STATIONS THAT WILL BE EXCHANGED FOR PARTICIPANTS PERSONAL BOTTLES, THERE WILL ASLO BE GATORADE BOTTLES.
  • ATHLETES CAN WALK WITH THEIR BIKES IF NECESSARY.



RUN: 3 laps 26.2 miles (42.195kms) cut off time: 17 hours from start

The entire course will be closed to car access and will be marked: every mile and every 5k.

The run course is a flat and paved road; it passes by many of Cozumel's signature sites, including its waterfront walk, Downtown's main plaza, and historic neighborhoods.

After finishing the bike portion of the race, turn in your bike to our T2 volunteers who will rack your bike, you will then pick up your running gear and proceed to the changing tents.

The runner will proceed north along the main street (Rafael Melgar Ave.) reaching the turnaround point near Cozumel's golf course and running back to the starting point to complete his/hers first lap . To complete the race you will have to run 3 laps finishing right in front of City Hall inside the main plaza.

You will find aid stations every other Km (orange and lemon flavor Gatorade, water, ice, Fuel 2 Go (gel), Vaseline, cola and medical assistance.

Race officials will be located at every turn around and along the entire course, as well as timing mats and video cameras.

The competitor BIB number should be visible at all times during the run, especially at the finish line.

Important:

Medical assistance will be provided at bike – run transition. Athletes who may need serious medical assistance at this point will not be allowed to continue. Medical decision will be irrefutable.
