We provide medical assistance to ensure participants safety and well-being during the competition.
Doing an iron distance race may cause serious damage to your body. Please bear in mind that the right hydration before and during the race can be vital for your success in the race.
There will be medical staff and facilities throughout the race. Lifeguards will be available during the swimming stage of the event, so all athletes can feel safe. Out of the water first-aiders are placed in the transition zone, ready to help with all kinds of issues that could arise during the swim. At some aid stations on the bike and run course, there will be first-aiders. If you feel sick or in need of medical assistance, please go see them, and make sure you are capable of continuing.
DEHYDRATATION: Athletes should have an appropriate intake of beverages and fluids (before, during and after the competition).
HYPERTHERMIA: Temperature can rise and it may be considerably humid. We recommend wearing light clothes and keep hydrated to avoid Hyperthermia.
HIPONATREMIA: "Low concentration of sodium in the blood", when you sweat, you lose water and salts, so even if you drink sports drinks during the race it is very likely that you will sweat out more salt than you can replace. You will need to replace salt specifically. This can be accomplished by eating salty foods.
SALT SOLUTIONS AND INTRAVENOUS FLUIDS: Some times after crossing finish line competitors require salt solutions or other intravenous fluid.
FAMILY OR FRIENDS ARE NOT ALLOWED INTO MEDICAL AREA.
IRONMAN COZUMEL FIRST PRIORITY IS THE SECURITY AND WELL-BEING OF ALL PARTICIPANTS. THUS WE ENCOURAGE ALL ATHLETES TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AND USE OF ALL AID STATIONS REGULARLY.
